Puppies: week 9 - moving on

The time has come for the puppies to move on to their new homes. Very exciting!

Their mum, Zinny, had been spending less and less time with them and seemed ready to let her offspring go into the big wide world.  This was to be done gradually. Some pups were due to go right at the start of the week. One was due to stay for another few weeks. Others would go at various times in-between. Some of these would be coming back to visit regularly for puppy play sessions. And one was going to be kept as another long term addition to the household.

In preparation for the big change, Zinny’s owner had prepared little puppy packs.  These including a variety of things including:

  • Details for the on going settling in process,

  • Information about their microchip details,

  • Small bags of the puppy food they had been on (so that there was not a sudden change in diet)

  • A small square of the blanket that had been part of their bedding (so they had a familiar smell in their new home).

  • Holistic Puppy Guide

For the last few days there had been homeopathic Ignatia in the drinking water.  Ignatia is a fantastic remedy and useful for so many indications.  A phrase to remember around Ignatia is “separation anxiety”.  This can be present in many situations. It could be grief for the loss of a companion. It could be distress for being left home alone.

In this situation it was being given for the stress around:

  • Moving from one home to the next

  • Separating from fellow siblings

  • Separating form their mum

It was also being given in a preventative way, before the actual stressful experience had occurred. Reminding the Vital Force, that should it come across a separation anxiety experience, it can be prepared to manage it well. The new puppy owners would also be told that it is a great remedy to continue with for a few days during the settling in period.

The first part of the puppies journey into the world has come to an end.  Over the next few months we will keep in touch with a few of these pups as they progress through the next stages of their lives.

Keep checking in to follow them in their adventures.
